What began as a 10-minute anecdote for a storytelling showcase in 2017 has grown into a full, hour-long one-woman journey—an intimate exploration of love, sexuality, race, and the wild, winding road that shaped me.
I expanded this piece for the 2025 Black Queer Studies 25th Anniversary Conference in Chapel Hill, where the response was so powerful that it launched the show into its next chapter.
Since then, Earth, Wind & Car Fire has enjoyed celebrated runs at the 2025 Hollywood Fringe Festival, the inagural Un-Erasable Solo Festival and the Binge Fringe Festival of Free Theatre at the historic Santa Monica Playhouse.
What started as a story has become a movement—one built on truth, resilience, humor, and the courage to finally set yourself free.
