Earth, Wind & Car Fire began as a 10-minute anecdote at a 2017 storytelling showcase and has since grown into a full-length, one-woman journey... an intimate exploration of love, identity, race, and the winding road that shaped me.
I expanded the piece and performed it as a staged reading in April 2025 at the Black Queer Studies 25th Anniversary Conference at UNC–Chapel Hill. The response was so overwhelming that mounting it as a full production felt inevitable.
Since then, Earth, Wind & Car Fire has been performed at the 2025 Hollywood Fringe Festival, the inaugural Un-Erasable Solo Festival in Inglewood, and the Binge Fringe Festival of Free Theatre at the historic Santa Monica Playhouse.
In 2026, I'm east coast bound...
Earth, Wind & Car Fire will next appear on October 29th & 30th at the United Solo Festival in New York, the largest solo theatre festival in the world.
Then, in true full-circle fashion, the show comes home to Durham, North Carolina for the inaugural Durham Fringe Festival on November 5th & 6th.
What started as a single story has taken on a life of its own... one built on truth, resilience, humor, and the courage to finally set yourself free.
